COTO DE CAZA, CA — Following yesterday’s resounding approval of Proposition 50 by California voters, and announcements this morning by MAGA Reps Young Kim and Ken Calvert that they will both fight to split the Republican vote in the new CA-40, challenger candidate for California’s 40th Congressional district Esther Kim Varet issued the following statement:
“In January, after googling how to run for Congress, I entered this race as a citizen with a plan to flip CA-40 and retire career politician and MAGA minion Young Kim. Young Kim today announced that she will continue to run in the new CA-40, even though its new district map excludes most of her constituency and is nowhere near her residence(s). She will be fighting to split the MAGA vote against displaced veteran MAGA CA-41 Rep. Ken Calvert, who also entered the CA-40 race today and who currently represents a majority of the new district map.”
“My husband and two elementary school-aged children and I live in the new CA-40, so now I’ll be fighting twice as hard to remove both of these corrupt politicians from Congress, while they also battle each other in a humiliating lose/lose MAGA-off pageant for Donald Trump’s approval.”
“The patriotic mission of my campaign remains unchanged, and today’s developments will only accelerate our momentum. Nearly 30,000 individual donors have contributed to my fight and over 350 local volunteers have signed up to help me flip this district red to blue. I appeal to all patriots in the new CA-40 and across the nation to help me retire both Young Kim and Ken Calvert, and help secure a House majority.”

The newly drawn California’s 40th Congressional District now spans broader terrain across Southern California—including added portions of Riverside County and San Bernardino County—making it one of the most consequential battlegrounds in the country. The district includes the cities of Rancho Santa Margarita, Murrieta, Menifee, Lake Elsinore, WIldomar and Canyon Lake as well as parts of Mission Viejo, Orange, Anaheim and Corona.
Challenger Esther Kim Varet has raised over $2 million to date with nearly 30,000 individual donors in her fight to represent this new district and stands committed to protecting women’s right to choose, expanding healthcare access, lowering drug costs, and enacting responsible gun‑safety measures.
